Performance Research & Design is a New York based human factors consulting firm providing services that promote the development of usable human-computer interfaces. We work with a varied and dynamic nationwide clientele including Fortune 500 companies, Web design firms, major online services, and cutting-edge Internet start-up companies. Core services include usability testing of Web sites and other software, collaboration on user interface design, information architecture services, and other user-centered design activities.

Performance Research and Design is looking for a part-time Usability Tester/User Interface Consultant to assist in the delivery of core services including any or all of the following:

  • Usability testing of Web sites and software (including study design, testing, analysis, and report writing)
  • User centered design consultation (e.g., expert usability review of Web sites ("heuristic analysis"), collaboration on user interface design, user requirements analysis and documentation, user interface prototyping; etc.)
  • Focus groups pertaining to interface design and related marketing issues
  • Quantitative research on interface design and related marketing issues (e.g., electronic surveys)

This position provides an excellent opportunity for professional and financial growth with the possibility of full time employment. Opportunities exist for education and training in usability related services as well as for the development of services related to the candidate's unique skill set/interests. Occasional travel is probable.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must be highly adaptable and energetic with the capacity to work autonomously. Must have excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and be comfortable playing diverse professional roles with diverse teams/clients. Must have strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Must be a fast learner with keen observational skills (with attention to detail). Must have a flexible schedule to meet varied client demands.

M.A. Degree in a discipline related to human factors or human-computer interaction with at least two years practical experience. Must be extremely comfortable with computer interfaces (particularly Web interfaces). Direct experience conducting usability studies, focus groups, and/or electronic surveys is a plus. Experience with rapid prototyping (e.g., using html development tools, Visual Basic, or wireframes) a plus but not required.
